For this class I wanted to create a science fiction character inspired by the universe of the Dune novels and the TV series Firefly.

Ayana Sagan is a fifth generation of human settler on an extraterrestrial world. Her ancestors were some of the first ones to leave the old Earth after the Asian Conglomerates launched the deep space colonization program. Her lineage can be trace back to the city of Khiva in Uzbekistan and Tynda in eastern part of Siberia. Many worlds have since been visited and occupied by our species. Large zones turned to be difficult to keep under control and to maintain under a central power due to the distance between planetary system and the time it takes for information to travel between them. Few years ago, she took over the family business of interplanetary and international trading of goods through unauthorized routes, punishable in many worlds as smuggling. ­

Ayana resides currently on a small rocky planet named Sistan, it is about 20% of Earths volume and it gravitates around a red giant sun. This world was once covered by a great ocean which started to evaporated away long before the first human being arrived. The disappearance of the large body of water started when the nearby stars degenerated to its current state. Compared to Earth the Sistan atmosphere is saturated with oxygen due to the thermosphere electrolysis effect splitting the gas water in high altitude, the constant friction between the magnetosphere and the strong stellar wind emitted by the red star wind. Sistan atmosphere is also far less dense than earth especially in mountainous area. As a result of carrying portable life support system a helmet is not necessary but all humans must wear counter-pressure suit to stabilized internal pressure and prevent the blood from boiling. The high presence of oxygen also prevents the use of standard ammunition or firearms due to the risk of catastrophic backfires igniting the air around the shooter.

 Despite still having numerous rivers and reservoir, large parts of the world are dry, cold and covered with vivid landscapes of mountains and canyons whipped by strong wind. The arch climate carved numerous natural caves over the millennia creating a geological chaos, and a heaven for smugglers or any person classified as criminals by most standard judiciary systems. However most illegal activates are taking place in the far richer neighboring planetary system making this world relatively safe.
